Revenge porn is the sharing of intimate pictures of someone without their consent and with the intent of causing them distress.
It is called revenge porn because it is often associated with someone sharing pictures of an ex-partner that they want to hurt. Revenge porn was made a specific offence in the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015 and carries a sentence of up to 2 years in prison. The offence includes sharing private and sexually explicit pictures or films on social media, as well as via text message or email.
